This rugby stripe sweater outfit is one of those looks you can play with and wear for a variety of occasions, from casual to professional. Here, I’m styling it for a workwear wardrobe look.
Do you have separate wardrobes? One for work, one for casual, and one for more formal occasions? I used to do the same. I reached for the same old things time and time again for casual wear, grabbing an old favorite after work or for the weekend. Over time, I discovered that switching out pieces from my work outfits allowed me to look dress more fashionably in casual wear and increased the versatility of my wardrobe. One example is this rugby stripe sweater outfit, that I wear to work or with jeans for a casual affair.
The rugby pattern is borrowed from shirts worn by rugby players. It’s defined as a traditional design of a rugby shirt consisting of five or six horizontal stripes or “hoops” in alternating colors. The wider “awning” stripe differs from a traditional narrow stripe and often has two or more colors in the stripes.
Rugby stripes have become pretty mainstream in fashion, as you can see from this cute striped sweater outfit.
The Stripe Sweater Outfit for Work
Rugby sweaters are a perfect choice for fall wear and a short sleeve sweater is especially wearable. You can style one for work under a blazer and with jeans or cords and a fleece jacket for a casual night out.

Here are some similar faux suede and leather moto jackets in lots of pretty green shades:

I live your style and the variety in your blog clothes. You do a really good job and I enjoy your blog very much!
I meant I love your style!
Haha! I totally knew that! I often hit the darn i instead of the o when I’m trying to type “love!”

Hi Darlene
First, I lOVE seeing your pups! Aren’t they adorable! They are good sports too, as I love to try and get my pups involved. How old are your guys? Mine are 10 and 8 and not slowing down yet! I love the rich pine green on you, the moto jacket looks wonderful and it is refreshing to see a different color. Goes perfect with your striped sweater. Very pretty!

Thanks, Jess! Both of our pups are adopted. We picked up Sergeant, our Schnauzer mix. two years ago. We don’t know anything about his background as our local shelter saved him from a kill shelter. He is super trained and very loving so we can’t imagine anyone giving him up! Our vet thinks he is about 8, although the shelter told us he was two years old two years ago. Go figure. We don’t care, we’re just glad to have him. Lulu, our newest pup is a year and four months old. Other than that, we don’t know her background either, but she is just the sweetest little girl! She is helping our Sergeant stay young as she teaches him to play and run with her. They are such blessings. They don’t really like to pose, as you can see, but they do like to photobomb my pictures! Lol! I will watch to see more pictures with your little cuties!
It is refreshing to find new color combos. Although I love green, I discovered I don’t have a lot of it! So, that will be a goal. Not that I need more clothes. Yikes!
Have a wonderful weekend,
xx Darlene
I love the striped sweater and green jacket! I have a couple of faux suede moto jackets and they are great for this time of year. Lulu is such a cutie! Thanks for linking up!

Thanks, Emma. Lulu is such a great addition to our family! I think I have four or five moto jackets in various materials, and you’re right, they are perfect for fall!
Enjoy the weekend!

Thanks, Jacqui. Yes, doggies are so loving you can’t help but be happy around them! Thanks for hosting, and have a great (upcoming!) weekend!

Such a great outfit. I love the green suede moto jacket! It is my favorite color and I actually have a leather one and a suede one in green. Perfect color for Fall and so good with your striped sweater. And believe it or not, I actually don’t have very many pairs of black pants at all. Maybe 2 or 3. I just don’t wear them much. I am more of a denim girl. Now black jeans….I have too many of those! Thanks for linking up with me.

Yes, I know what you mean about black pants! Now that I’m not officially working (what?! Blogging is actually LOTS of work), and am instead doing part-time consulting, I have way more denim than anything else! But in my former profession, slacks were required. You do have lots of moto jackets in your posts, and aren’t they just the best?
Thanks for hosting–and the nice comment, Shelbee,

Hey, we are both in green today! Isn’t it a fabulous color! I love that sweater and the jacket. Happy weekend.
Yes, I just saw that on your blog! Great minds think alike! I love green but don’t have a lot of it. You look amazing in green, Nancy!
Have a great weekend,
xx Darlene
I just adore that green moto jacket from Stitch Fix, what a great color for the fall! LOVE it!
