Looking through some of my favorite catalogs at this year’s holiday fashions, it occurred to me over and over: I have that skirt, that top, a similar piece…and hey, I can re-create holiday fashions from my closet!
So I decided to do a series of copycat looks based on the trends showing up this season. As it happens, most of these are black or black and white. It’s a combo that always works.
Join me as I recreate holiday fashions from some of my favorite stores. When you peruse my versions of the copycat looks, be thinking of those YOU can recreate.
How to Re-create Holiday Fashions
A Classic Look
Honestly, is there anything more classic than a black maxi skirt? Here is an easy yet elegant look recreated from Talbots, the ultimate destination for classic fashion.
Here’s the holiday look from Talbots and my re-created look.
My skirt is a basic knit, but I can still get the look by adding a classic white shirt and pearls to dress it up.
Here are some pieces, in case you need to refresh your black and white pieces.
Need a long strand of pearls for an outfit? Here is a very inexpensive faux pearl necklace you can wrap around your neck, and here is a beautiful endless strand cultured pearl necklace. (Maybe a Christmas present to yourself? Or from your honey?)
An Updated Basic Re-created
The LBD is always a good choice for holiday fashion. Really, for any occasion year-round, but with the return of in-person celebrations like office parties, dinner parties, and holiday parties, this look always works. The featured black midi dress from Anthropology is a midi length, with lace sleeves and trim. It reminded me of this jumpsuit in my closet. By substituting the LBD with a jumpsuit, it gives it a nod to a fresh version of an old classic.
This jumpsuit first appeared in the post, Tips for How to Wear a Jumpsuit.
If you have a black jumpsuit in your closet, pull it out and style it up for instant holiday style! If not, here are some adorable options:
Do you have a basic black knit jumpsuit in your closet? Here is one I styled over a year ago. I can dress it down with sneakers but just by adding a blingy belt and statement earrings, you have a dressy holiday look. Here is a similar knit jumpsuit that is very inexpensive.
The Trouser Outfit
Here again, is another black and white look. While the inspiration for my recreation includes black velvet pants, I don’t have any, so I went with my silky bootcut trousers. I do have my eye on this pair of wide-leg velvet pants! My shell top lacks the velvet tie but the lace yolk creates a dressy touch.
For such a simple look, this outfit packs a lot of punch and always looks not only appropriate but chic.
