Are you already hard at work planning your holiday festivities? It’s that time of year when we all start to gear up for the crazy, yet wonderful, season ahead! If you’re on the lookout for an easy outfit idea, try this simple and elegant burn-out velvet top outfit.
This is one of those “bargains” where you can really get your money’s worth! An affordable yet elegant top that you can dress up for a fancy dress occasion, or wear with jeans and still look stylish.
Now, about that top…
Burn-out Velvet Top
This burn-out velvet top is a pullover making it easy to slip it on and style. It’s covered with pink and gold flowers so you can pair it with any number of pieces in your wardrobe! Black jeans? Check. Black slacks? Check? Pink cords? Check. Long skirt? Check. Pencil skirt? Check. The possibilities are many!
I’m styling it here with black designer jeans for an effortless, casual look. During the holidays, I’ll style it with my long skirt from this post and put my hair up and add bold statement earrings for a more elegant party look. here are some gorgeous velvet jeans on sale for 50% off! But it’s a flash sale, so hurry! They would look amazing with this burn-out velvet top!
Now, this top is sheer, so you could either wear it with a fuller-coverage black bra (or NOT! However you like it!) or over a cami. You could vary the look of the top by switching out the color in the cami and create several different effects.
Black designer jeans – (similar)
Black jeans are a great wardrobe basic as they, too, can be dressed up or down. This designer pair by Paige and the uneven hem is no longer available. But you could substitute your favorite pair of black jeans. One of my other favorites is NYDJ and here is a pair in the skinny style, while here is a straight-leg version. NYDJ holds the nice dark color, which makes their cost-to-wear ratio high!
The boots and bag
Velvet booties are the perfect accompaniment to the burn-out velvet top. I styled this in an earlier post and they have become my go-to booties! Just enough heel to give height, and the almond-shaped toe gives you enough toe room to be able to wear them for the whole day.
I love the play of the leopard on the bag with the golden tones in the velvet floral. This one is no longer available, but I found this very cute shoulder bag as a substitute. It has leopard interspersed with black stripes–very cute!

The burn-out velvet top in this post is another example of how inexpensively you can style an outfit this holiday season. As long as the quality is good, the piece fits well, and the colors complement your skin and other pieces in your closet, you can put together a stunning outfit without spending a lot of money. And that gives you more money to shop! For gifts, of course.
