I hope you had a lovely weekend. As I mentioned in Friday’s post, we are back to reality as we are back at the coast after a nice stay in the desert. Luckily, we had a beautiful, sunny weekend here. How is your weather? Some of my blogger friends in the South are reporting temps in the 90’s. So–here it is–summer is coming! And what could be more essential for your summer wardrobe than a striped tee and crop jeans? Ah, summer personified.
I’ve mentioned this before, but when you are fairly short, “crop” can be a misnomer in describing the length of jeans. Or any pants for that matter! Do any of you struggle with this? It always cracks me up when I talk to my tall friends who struggle to find pant lengths that aren’t cropped on them! Haha! Yes, we all have our challenges. So, unless I find a style in a petite length, most cropped jeans are actually ankle-length on me. And in some cases, like these front split hem jeans from an earlier post (catch it here), I find I actually like them in the longer length on me, regardless of how they were intended to fit. Anyway, that it the story for today’s crop jeans as well. Now, more about the striped tee outfit.
Summer essentials-the striped tee
While there are many things that are essential pieces for summer, there is just something about a striped tee that says summer. I have a few in my closet and I’ll bet you do, too. While they do actually remind one of the gondolier looks (lol!), they have broad appeal, right? I find myself refreshing my collection of striped tees almost every spring as I eagerly await summer weather. They look great under a sweater or blazer, too.
To add to the gondolier comment, I added a skinny scarf around my neck. It is supposed to be off to one side, but one does find oneself constantly pulling at it to keep it in place! Haha! There are lots of cute styles in striped tees, but I like the basic short sleeve style. This one is from Gap and was very inexpensive. Of course, it is sold out as so many things are right now! Here are some other options; I am mostly sharing the basic tee style–my preference.
Summer essentials–the crop jeans
Now, back to the jeans. Whether or not these are officially crop jeans, I like the split on the side. It gives them a more summery look. This particular pair has lots of stretch, and better yet, comes in lots of colors for summer!
The final summer essential, of course, is a pair of white sneakers. While colored ones are great, too, a white pair is truly essential. These are leather with nice support and I have been styling them for several months. White sneakers continue to trend and look good with jeans and shorts and even skirts and dresses. Try the look on you and see how cute it can be!
You can see how the two different bag styles can really impact how the outfit looks. In the first photos, I am styling it with my leather satchel bag, which I use for every day. In the photo above, I added my pompom tote. Both work nicely, but the bag does change the look. So many of you have asked about the tote bag. It was from Talbots and sold out quickly, but they do have another bag with pompoms in three other color combinations. You can see them here. I also found a VERY similar pompom tote in my searches, and you can view it here. A pompom tote is so great for summer!
Do an inventory of your closet and make sure you have a basic striped tee or two. If not, go shopping! (I know it’s painful, but…sometimes you just have to do it! Lol!) And pick up some cute cropped jeans, too!
