Ah, the colors of summer. Don’t you just love the brighter colors? The richness of the hues is a hallmark of warmer weather. Even if you are a neutrals lover, it’s fun to step a bit outside that box and go for something new like this checkered pants outfit. The orange color just called to me and brightened my mood!
There is a great deal of research on the effect of color on mood and behavior. My husband wrote his Master’s thesis many years ago on the effect of paint colors on inmates while incarcerated in jails and prisons. (Yes, he was a peace officer, with an emphasis on peace.) There was overwhelming evidence of behavior influenced by color. For example, pink painted walls actually made the men agitated and more likely to act out, whereas blue had a tranquil effect.
A recent experience I’ve had with the significance of color is on learning in the classroom. It’s proven that color affects learning and that certain colors for certain subjects (blue for social studies, etc.) can truly impact learning. We experimented with different paint colors in various classrooms and found it did make a difference. If nothing else, the teachers and students felt involved and empowered by having and making choices for their learning environments.
How does this psychology regarding color relate to fashion choices? Well, if we want to improve our mood, our sense of well-being, our open-mindedness, we need to reach for color! Remember when it was said that a swath of red lipstick can make all the difference? Well, that happens to be true!
So, let’s start by adding a new color to our day with an orange checkered pants outfit!
The Checkered Pants Outfit
Both of these pieces in this checkered pants outfit are from that exclusive boutique we all know and love. Yes, Target! The bright pop of orange just called my name!
Checkered pants were the inspiration for this outfit. These are super comfy pants with a side zipper. They have just enough stretch and are not overly fitted, which is my new favorite style. We wore so many “skinnies” that it’s great to see some of the straight styles come back. Of course, all and any style pant is right if it works for your body shape.
The pants are available in red-orange (shown here), green check, and gold plaid. What a great buy for the price!
The top is another nice piece from the A New Day line. It’s a boxy shape that I chose to style here over my pants. But you could easily do a full or partial tuck. The fabric is a linen/rayon blend so it’s not meant to be pressed and without wrinkles. (I know, some of us just can’t do that with linen–the wrinkles make you crazy, right? Lol!) That’s the beauty of breathable linen material, so go with it and enjoy!
This style top tends to run a bit big, so while I normally wear a small, I purchased the top in an extra-small and you can see it’s still pretty roomy. It also comes in a white, olive, and a nice stripe with a combination of these colors. Very summery!
Although gold chain necklaces and subtle hoop earrings are the top trending styles in jewelry, rattan and natural fabric styles still rule for summer. These white rattan hoops are part of a collection of four rattan hoop styles and are incredibly inexpensive. At this price, you will definitely get your value, i.e. cost-per-wear, out of these earrings.
Once again I’m styling these adorable crochet wedges from Walking Cradles. Comfy and super cute are two features that just can’t be beat.
My straw bag was a bargain piece I picked up last summer at Target. Since it’s a bucket style, I’ve linked a few here along with some other cute bargains for summer. At these low prices, you can pick one or two up and get plenty of value from them!
If you need to brighten your mood, improve your day, or just feel like flaunty some color, try a checkered pants outfit in orange. That pop of color will make your day just a little bit better.
