A floral flounce skirt is a piece that you can style for any season. For summer, add a tee and sandals. Fall? Add a chunky cardigan and booties. For winter, knee-high boots and a moto jacket will do the trick.
Today I’m sharing how to style a flounce skirt for fall–both warm and cooler days–and how to add pieces for the colder months ahead.
The Flounce Skirt Outfit
A skirt with a flared shape is flattering on everyone. With an elasticized waist and ties, it’s easy to fit and wear. In a floral print like this buttercup-on-black pattern, it also spans the seasons.
This particular skirt is a “final sale” item from Loft so you can pick one up for a great price. But they won’t last! Here are some other great options:
Style the Skirt for Fall
For warmer fall days or Indian Summer as it’s often called, you can style the flounce skirt much as you would in summer months. For this look, I added a ruched-front coral top, but any color in the skirt could be emphasized here.
Slide sandals still work in many parts of the country at this time of year. That is certainly true here in Southern California where our warmest months now happen in the fall. We are once again in the middle of a heatwave! Yikes!
Chenille Cardigan (blue, black, cream) | Elbow-Length Tee
An easy fall look includes that basic we all have: the chunky cardigan. (Styled here with a coral slip dress.) These sweaters are definitely a fall essential!
Neutral booties complete the outfit. What could be simpler?
The Skirt Outfit Winterized
Winterizing this outfit is super easy as well. Change out the skimpier top for a turtleneck or mock-neck top with long sleeves for added warmth.
Of course, a leather moto jacket is a standout in this outfit, right? After all, who doesn’t love the edginess these jackets give to a look. Mine is the Leather Biker Jacket from Treasure and Bond and I’ve had it for three years. A bit pricier than some, but well worth it as you will wear it season after season.
OTK boots work well here as they go up and under the length of the skirt, making one solid line for your legs. Another option would be to wear black tights and knee-high boots or even tights and booties. Easy peasy!
The Tote Bag
With the last two outfits, you can see the addition of this quilted leather bag. I wrote about it and offered some alternatives in the post A Fresh Fall Outfit in Jasper Green. A stylish, quality bag can really add elegance to even the simplest outfit!
Add A Coral Lip
We talk a lot about the glamour of the “red lip,” and with the upcoming holidays, it will be mentioned many times over. What could add more glamour than red lipstick? Try coral! Or a version of it that works for you. Fall is ripe for colors like coral and red-oranges and it’s fun to add it via your lipstick.
Color My World lipsticks are super creamy and all of the colors seem to work. I even tried a brownish-tone, usually a no-no with my yellowish complexion, but it actually works on me! The coral shade here is Coral Reef and it also comes in a bundle of three of my favorite shades, the Feeling Fresh Bundle. This brand, said to be specifically formulated for women over 40, doesn’t bleed and is very moisturizing. I think it works for any age with colors from sheer and light to bolder colors.
If you’re feeling stuck about what to wear right now, try a flounce skirt or any floral skirt in your closet. Flattering and easy to style, you can’t go wrong for an easy fall look, regardless of your weather.
This was great, Darlene. You really showed how versatile this skirt is, and I gotta’ say, I think my favorite was the last. It looks so good with all the black. Love it.
Thanks so much, Lisa. All the commenters said the same–they liked the black. I have to say, me, too! Lol! You win some, and lose some others, right? Have a great week.

Darlene, this skirt is so pretty! I love dark florals this time of year. Each way you styled it got better and better as I scrolled through your post. I love all the ways, but you know the otk boots and moto jacket look is my favorite. You look amazing and totally badass, my friend! Thanks for linking up.

OK, the badass look is the winner, once again! Haha! Thanks, Shelbee. When I looked at the pictures, I have to agree. Sometimes you think something will look great and but the photos say otherwise! Know what I mean? Oh, well. That’s the point, right? Figuring out our best look.
Have a great week,

Thank you, Ellibelle. Until I saw the photos, I wasn’t sure which look was best, but I agree with you on the winter version of the outfit. Thanks for the feedback.

I’m with you on summer looks! I’m such a summer person. But the boots and jackets in winter months can really “style up” a look, can’t they? Thanks, Michelle
