As a Southern California girl, there are certain styles and brands that go with the territory. One of my favorites is Tommy Bahama, whose casual style reflects the laid-back lifestyle here along the coast. Today I’m styling a casual Tommy Bahama Dress that I will wear on Mother’s Day.
But there’s a funny story about this brand. Tommy Bahama, or Bob Emfield, is actually from Minnesota! He wanted to create a line of men’s clothing that reflected his love of the beach and so, 25 years or so ago, Tommy Bahama the brand was born. The company is currently based in Seattle!
You may remember how the first pieces were loose-fitting silk men’s camp shirts with palm-tree graphics. Almost every adult man had one–from Minnesota to California to Florida. Does that ring a bell? Did your husband or dad or friend sport one of these fun shirts? Just wearing one of these shirts transported guys into an island state of mind and created a calm and casual vibe, which was Bob Emfield’s intent. The men’s line quickly grew and a women’s line with the same casual style was born.
Since we will have a simple and casual Mother’s Day celebration, I’ll wear my own Tommy Bahama dress.
The Tommy Bahama Dress
You can find Tommy Bahama’s clothing at most major stores around the country. Or you can visit one of their stores, which generally has a vacation feel, with lots of bamboo and parrot pictures. It’s a fairly pricey line of clothing, but the quality is very good and the styles and fabrics are unique.
When the weather heats up, there’s nothing like a sleeveless dress. Especially one with pockets, right? In anticipation of warmer weather (I want it now!! Lol!). I picked up this very cute floral chambray dress.
The fabric is 100% Tencel, so it’s soft and drapes beautifully. And the easy shift styling can be dressed up by adding gold jewelry, strappy heeled sandals, and a stylish clutch. Or style it a bit more casually, as I have here, with platform sandals and a round tote bag.
Tribute to Mothers of All Kinds
With Mother’s Day less than a week away, it’s time to remember the special women in our lives.
I lost my mother 28 years ago and I miss her every day. She was truly my best friend. We could laugh for hours on end! She was an easy person to be with and everyone liked her. I think of her often and especially on Mother’s Day. I feel that she is with me at all times and she would love my blog!
You’ve already read about my mother-in-law who is another special person in my life. She raised her son to be a loving husband and father and I will always be grateful to her.
There are lots of other special women who I’ve met along the way. All of them have impacted me and helped shape me as a woman. I love and appreciate them all.
For that special woman in your life, Kendra Scott has this beautiful gift set specially priced. It includes her delicate necklace and matching earrings in a clear glass. So pretty!
Who are the special ladies in your life? Will you be spending time with them this Mother’s Day? Even if you can’t be with her or them, I know you’ll thinking of them and will appreciate them on this special day for all mothers.
Have a wonderful week~
