Hello, everyone! How do you plan to celebrate New Year’s Eve? Today I am styling a very basic black dress two ways to show how you don’t have to buy a fancy new dress for every occasion.
This basic black dress is a simple knit dress from Gap. I bought it just before Christmas to take advantage of one of the amazing sales. Even though stores started offering great deals before Christmas, there are still incredible buys out there!
If you are going to friends for a dinner party or a party where you want to be a little dressed up, but with no bling, it’s pretty easy to do. Take a basic black dress (or even a skirt and top), add some tights and block heels and a scarf, and voila–simple party outfit!
For my look, I added an animal print scarf and my leopard clutch bag, but you could go many ways with this and add a pop of color in the scarf or even in your shoes. And, of course, the red lip adds additional drama.
This type of dress would look great with over-the-knee (OTK) boots. I bought a pair but the lovely foot just isn’t able to comfortably go into it! Darn! I can’t wait to wear them, but it will be a while. So, if you don’t have OTK boots you can get a similar look with tights and matching shoes! These suede block heeled pumps are by Sofft and they are beautiful! They also come in red; I may have to get me a pair of those!
For jewelry, I am wearing some silver earrings and a simple silver bracelet. And yes, I am wearing it on top of the sleeve–a look that I like.
To take this look to a dressier level, I just changed the scarf for a pendant necklace and a sparkly clutch.
So, as you can see, you can take a very basic black dress and easily dress it up or down. Just adding different jewelry and a blingy bag, you have an entirely new look. I may even wear this for New Year’s Eve.
Are you taking advantage of the many sales? Almost every store has amazing deals, so if you still have the shopping bug, now is your time!! I would love to hear about your “finds.”
