How many leopard pieces do you have in YOUR closet? A lot, I’ll bet. How about zebra or snakeskin? Maybe not so much, but they are sure trending with lots of choices out there. Like this snakeskin maxi skirt.
The beauty of all the animal prints is how easy they are to style. They go with almost any neutral–white, beige, brown, black, you name it. And they also look fabulous with bright or vibrant solids! Like red, green, blue, yellow, burgundy (my personal favorite!), hot pink, or just about any of your favorite colors.
Beyond that, you can style an animal print outfit for a super casual event all the way to an elegant party. It’s all in the contrasting pieces and the accessories.
Today, I’m styling it traditionally with a basic top and neutral-toned sandals and bag.
The Snakeskin Maxi Skirt and Top
While I suspect that snakeskin will stay popular for some time to come, I don’t like to spend a great deal on something that may not be around for long. This snakeskin skirt is incredibly affordable which allows me to play with this new print. By that, I mean it was only $20! That’s an expense I’m willing to make to try something out. How about you?
The skirt is from the Wild Fable line at Target which tends to run small. This skirt, however, actually runs large and I ordered it a size smaller than I usually wear. Luckily, the length works for me and isn’t too long. The side slit is located in just the right place to make it easy to walk in and provide a little peek of leg.
The skirt has a back elastic band and a flat front that hangs nicely against your body. Sergeant’s animal print is mostly black with a white chest and the tips of his back paws!! Haha!
Basic black looks elegant with any animal print, including snakeskin, and I love the contrast between the two. The top is a mid-priced one from Gibson who makes decent quality pieces. It comes in several colors and the black is a dark, deep black that doesn’t fade.
These wedge espadrilles, from Franco Sarto, are my favorites for summer. The slight platform heel provides enough height while making them comfy and easy to walk in. You know what I mean–the crazy high platforms make you do the flat-footed duck walk right!? Lol! If you’re ready to add some MORE snakeskin to your wardrobe, you can even get these sandals in a snake print! Super cute!
Have you heard of “greige”? Well, it’s the color of this leather crossbody bag. The cross between beige and gray makes this a very versatile bag that looks great with almost anything. It’s the perfect size for everyday items and also works with a slightly dressier outfit. And it comes in 4 colors, including a very nice red!
My necklace and earrings are both from Kendra Scott. Are you a Kendra Scott fan, too! This brand makes really nice jewelry, though it can be a bit pricey. I’ve acquired several of these types of pieces on sale. Very often, stores that carry Kendra Scott put pieces on sale. At Nordstrom, for instance, you just have to ask the ladies at the counter if there are any on sale, and oftentimes they have some sale items! For example, I picked up this necklace for under $50. Both pieces are no longer available but there are lots of similar styles and colors to choose from.
Are you sold on snakeskin yet? Is it something you will add to your wardrobe? You can go whole hog with allover print, or just style it in your accessories, like your shoes, a bag, or a scarf.
I would love to know what you think about this animal print!
