Dressing for the office or work in the summer can be a challenge. Of course, depending on your field of work, summer dress codes vary. But in many cases, it’s possible to dress a bit more casually, or business casual as they call it. For today’s post, I’m sharing an idea for a casual work skirt outfit that might work for you.
A few jobs back, I worked in an environment that did not allow denim of any kind. Seems impossible, doesn’t it? (I tended to move around a bit as I progressed through my career as an educational administrator.) Especially given that many denim pieces cost more than their un-denim-y counterparts! So, after progressing from that job to another one, I relished the chance to add some denim back into my wardrobe. Items like a denim jacket, skirt, and even a denim sheath in my closet quickly came out of the closet. It felt great to style my outfits with a little denim here and there. What is the dress code at your place of work? Does a denim jacket work for your office?
The casual work skirt outfit
The centerpoint of this business casual outfit is the knit skirt. This piece was included in a recent Stitch Fix. It’s an easy-care, elastic waist skirt that could be part of an outfit from casual to dressy. The geometric print is fun and colorful and can go with almost any solid color top that looks nice with the blue. I styled it with my orange laser halter top (see the top here in a recent post) under a denim-y blazer and loved the navy and orange together! Always a nice combination. This particular skirt was exclusive to Stitch Fix, but I found a very similar one here.
There is nothing quite like a lovely white top that can be worn year-round. This crochet front top was another Stitch Fix exclusive, and you can see a beautiful crochet version here that is VERY cute–and comes in several colors! The contrast of lace or crochet with a denim jacket or jeans really works!
A pair of neutral sandals is the perfect accompaniment to any summer outfit, and these have a slight wedge which adds a bit of length to the legs. I need that whenever I can get it! Lol! And a slight wedge is more work appropriate than a flat sandal in my experience. They are a great addition to your casual skirt work outfit.
As I am SURE you all know, straw bags are really hot this year! They are available every summer, but they are really trending this year. This cute round bag actually holds all my essentials. It is sold out, but this one here is similar and even cuter with a leather shoulder strap.
For a casual work skirt outfit to look office ready, a bit of jewelry helps seal the deal. I styled the outfit with my trusty gold hoops (very work appropriate!) and adjustable lariat necklace. Both are by Gorjana who makes nice quality jewelry pieces at a fair price.
The final piece: the denim jacket
I know you all have at least ONE denim jacket in your closet. Or is it two…or three…or more? Haha! Just in case you don’t–or need to add another one to your wardrobe–I’ve included a link for my jacket. It has served me well, and as you all know, only gets better with time. And washings. And wearings.
SO–will you be styling a casual work skirt outfit this summer? Either for work or play, it will work either way!
