Right off the bat, you ask, what the heck is a duster, right? And how is it different from a long cardigan?! Well, it turns out that the very definition of a long cardigan is a duster. So if your cardigan falls below the knees, it’s a duster. To illustrate, I’m styling a duster length cardigan for fall.
The duster length cardigan (hereafter dubbed, duster) is such an easy style. And it’s a big trend every fall, and apparently even more so this fall. The word comes from cowboys who wore dusters – ankle-length canvas or cotton coats – in the mid-1800s to protect their chaps from the dusty trails. Cardigans became fashionable in the 1920s when Coco Chanel introduced knit skirt suits to women’s wear. So there is your fashion history lesson for today!

This is another great buy from the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale, and miracle of miracles, it appears there are still some available. (But hurry! Yikes, they sell out fast!) While I love sweaters that are cozy, the weather where I live doesn’t often accommodate super heavy sweaters. Fortunately, this one is a fine-gauge knit from a really soft yarn, so you get a touch of cozy and cuddly without the weight or the heat.
It has a shawl collar that adds to the cozy appeal of this duster.
Just in case you don’t recognize the black jeans (lol!), these are the Wit & Wisdom skinnies that are on sale. You know I love them!
Camisole tops are wardrobe workhorses. You can wear them with jeans or shorts as well as under blazers for workwear. They can also go solo with a pencil skirt for a gorgeous yet simple evening look. This satiny one is from BP, an affordable Nordstrom brand. It’s currently on sale as part of the Anniversary Sale but I believe you can pick one up almost anytime at a decent price.
I liked this floral print cami with the lace trim, and it also comes in solid black, ivory, red, and leopard. It’s hard not to pick up one of each! (I did order the ivory as I know I can use it for lots of outfits.) At a price point under $24, it’s a great time to stock up.
It’s always fun when I choose something from the sale that doesn’t sell out. That generally means that not a lot of ladies were drawn to it in the online catalog. I actually like that!! I have always enjoyed wearing things that are a bit different, especially in shoes. In a previous post, I shared how I wore boys’ brown and black saddle shoes when all the girls were wearing black and white ones in high school!
These slip-on cap-toe sneakers are like that. The patent leather cap-toe and gold chain make them stand out from the crowd. Chains are a popular detail this year, and you will find them everywhere, especially in handbags and jewelry. Since they are a sneaker, they are comfy as well as stylish. Gotta love that, right?
For the sale, they are 50% at under $60.
Finally, I’ve been admiring all the wrapped bracelets the other bloggers and influencers have been wearing. So I checked out Victoria Emerson and picked up a few pieces, like this Freshwater Pearls on Black Wrap. It’s a fun statement piece and adds a nice element to my outfit! They processed the order quickly and I received it in just a few days, nicely packaged in a little labeled pouch. These bracelets will make great holiday gifts! (Yes, THAT will be here before we know it, right?!)
If you are interested in a duster to wear with both casual outfits and workwear, take a look at these long cardigans and other sale items. The sale lasts until Sunday. Happy shopping!
