Spring has sprung! Or has it? During this unpredictable season–between winter and spring–it’s a good idea to be prepared for anything. My solution? This easy-peasy formula for a casual transitional outfit.
I’m sharing two possibilities today so you can compare an ultra-easy and comfy look with one that is just a bit less everyday. What makes the difference? You guessed it the accessories!! Nothing new there, right?
And here we go…
the Formula for a Casual Transitional Outfit
These steps are truly a no-brainer, which I know you’ll agree. But it’s nice to think of dressing casually following a formula, especially on those days when you are not in the mood to overthink your attire.
- Choose comfy jeans or pants
- Select a cute or colorful tee or knit top
- Pick out a jacket in denim or a lightweight style to complement your pieces
- Add accessories – a cute bag, flats or sneakers, scarf
And there it is! Super simple, easy to assemble, and even easier to get dressed.
The Super Casual Outfit
It’s just one of “those” days. You just want to throw something on and go. But you don’t want to look like you just threw something on. Know what I mean? Those are the days to go ultra-casual. You know, one of those days where sneakers are absolutely required!
An easy pick is to start with white jeans. Any style that is comfy and looks good on you. Got a striped tee? these cute tops always look cute and put together. I’m loving this soft striped hoodie. It’s available in several colors for a reasonable price. The fit is slightly close to the body, so size up if you like a looser fit. I’m wearing my usual size small.
While I have a couple of versions of a denim jacket in my closet, I really like this one with the banded collar. It doesn’t get in the way and feel too bulky when I wear a cowl or turtleneck under it. The same is true with this hoodie. Here are some options for a collarless style: Ruffle Collar Denim Jacket | Denim Trucker Jacket in light wash | Banded Color Denim Jacket. Of course, any denim jacket will work!
Any sneaker will do nicely but choose a pair that is uber comfy. There are lots of choices out there for sneakers, and most likely you have your favorites. But these Gel Nimbus by Asics work so well for me. After my ankle surgery a few years ago (some of you may remember my photos with my boot!), my doctor recommended shoes with a “neutral” fit. These fit the bill.
I have these in blue, lichen green, and champagne. They may not be available in all sizes and colors, but there are lots to choose from.
Casual Outfit #2
Even on a dark and cloudy spring day, try to add some color to your look! It’s amazing how much color can brighten your spirits. To illustrate, I’m styling a long-sleeve henley top here in orange. Nothing like a little orange to brighten your day!
A neutral utility jacket is my warming layer, but you could add a blazer or any other layer to add just a touch of warmth on a cold day.
When you’re just not sure if it might be windy or breezy, take a scarf along! One of the longer scarves can add lots of warmth throughout the day and just as easily be taken off! Plus, they add some pretty pattern and texture and can be used to tie all your pieces together. I love the rich shades of navy, olive, and peach in this floral scarf.
There are many brands of these tan wedge sneakers. Almost all are highly ranked in the comfort department!
On any given day when you want to get dressed in a hurry and just aren’t sure about the weather, follow this super simple formula for a casual transitional outfit. You’ll be dressed in a flash but will look like you spent some time styling your look.
