If you are looking for an easy yet stylish look, I have the perfect black sweater outfit for you! Honestly, this is such a simple look, but the couple of times I’ve worn it, people have come up to me and said how much they like my outfit. At first I would say, “Thanks–it’s just a black sweater and jeans.” I soon learned to just say thanks! One time in Trader Joe’s!! Lol! It’s a very basic formula, my friends. But it works.
- Select your favorite black sweater.
- Style it with a great pair of bootcut jeans. Don’t ask me why, but this style seals the deal for this outfit.
- Add some cool booties or boots.
- Add simple jewelry.
- If you’re carrying a bag, keep it simple and classic.
Really, that’s it! So anyone can do it! So pull out the pieces you already have to style the look or read on for details to put together a new version of the perfect black sweater outfit.
The Perfect Black Sweater Outfit
This slightly cropped black sweater came in a Trunk Club selection. Now, I do have a few black sweaters (actually, more than a few!), but a nicely made sweater like this is one you do want to add to your wardrobe.
It’s from Lou and Grey, so you know the emphasis is on soft. This pullover style sweater has a hint of cashmere with a classic crewneck and puffed raglan sleeves. Best of all it’s moderately priced.
If you need additional warmth, you can style this sweater over a plaid flannel shirt. Just pull the collar up and let the tail hang out. It looks super cute!
Now let’s talk bootcut jeans. There are some very nice designer jeans out there to choose from. But you can also find some great quality bootcut jeans at much lower prices. Here I show you two that I really like.
The first pair is from Wit & Wisdom and they come in regular and petite sizes. They first appeared in the post, A Red Puffy Vest Outfit for Winter. They have a higher waist and just enough stretch in a dark-wash finish.
The second pair is a very inexpensive version from Universal Threads. Same higher waist, but with a button front. The wash is slightly “whiskered” so there are some lighter areas here and there.
The verdict? Actually, I like them both. The darker pair is a bit dressier and more slimming–always a good thing! The medium indigo whiskered jeans with the button front are fun and casual. Both have just the right amount of stretch and feel great on. Which pair of jeans do you like best?
I get compliments on these booties all the time! They are such a great looking pair of shoes. Now I know some of you in colder climates can’t wear them a lot in the winter months, but spring will be here before you know it! Also, the odd weather patterns give us all the occasional warm day as a surprise, right?
The Bag and Jewelry
A variety of inexpensive handbags allows me to change up my outfits. But I do purchase a high-quality bag about once a year. These bags last forever, so it’s a good idea to find one that is a simply-styled classic, preferably in a solid color. Since I do wear burgundy quite a bit in the fall and winter, this bag from Tory Burch fits the bill for me.
I love the zipped and open compartments and the lack of fancy details or large logos. It’s a classic bag I can carry for a long time to come.
For a simple touch of jewelry, I added my classy black drop earrings from Kendra Scott. They make any outfit look special.
A plain outfit like this one calls for a little embellishment somewhere to pull it all together, One way to do that is to tie a coordinating–or contrasting!–scarf on your bag. This one works well with the burgundy and black pattern. This one simple addition can make all the difference in your look. Try it–you’ll love it!
