How do you make the most of what you have in your closet? Have you found yourself separating your casual clothes from your work or “dressier” clothes? There really is no need to do that for everything in your wardrobe. Much of what you already have can be easily repurposed to make lots of cute outfits suitable for many types of events. Today I am going to show you how to take a halter top–typically considered a summer top–and style it three ways for three types of occasions.
The halter top outfit for a warm spring day
To start off, I am styling this cute halter top with a pair of distressed denim shorts. A bright floral top can really pop against anything denim.
This adorable abstract floral halter top was part of a recent fix from Stitch Fix. The thing I love most about Stitch Fix is the surprise element. I probably wouldn’t pick this out at the mall, but once I put it on, I was thrilled! Slightly distressed denim shorts go with almost anything, and this top is no exception. Last year’s espadrilles and a cute white clutch completed the outfit.
The halter top for a casual occasion
Got a casual party coming up? A dinner date with your honey or with friends? Or how about a shopping date with your BFF? Black jeans are always an easy choice–yes, even in the spring and summer! And the very dark color of these jeans provides the perfect contrast to the abstract print in the top.
Once again, my espadrilles and the white bag looked great with this outfit. The hot pink in the cardigan really brings out the pink in the top. My husband, aka photographer, thought it was a different top! Well, maybe that’s just a typical man reaction, but it really might mean that the pink sweater changes the look! Haha! Of course, Sergeant was on hand. I love the way we’re both looking in opposite directions in the photo below! Lol!
Jewelry consisted of black cluster earrings and bangle bracelets.
The halter top with workwear
While my career in educational administration was in a pretty traditional field, and suits and professional clothes ruled, I still liked to add a pop of color or some other bit of surprise to an otherwise staid outfit. For example, take a look at this basic black suit. Very professional but very boring, right?
Some really good news for those of us that don’t really enjoy wearing very high heels is the current trend: kitten heels! I have to admit that they were a staple of my working wardrobe and I didn’t really care whether they were in style or not! Haha! The pink kitten heels give it a little extra, as does the crossbody bag, but it really needs something. Now check it out with the colorful halter top. Oh, yeah, right?
And, once again, I love the detail of the polka-dots in the rolled-up sleeves of the blazer. I changed out the cluster earrings for a pair of simple hoops.
Talk about your basic halter top doing double-duty! How cute is that?

Very nice ways to style a halter top! I love the print on this and the colors work so well with your white clutch and black espadrilles.
