Some trends come and go, but the Fair Isle Sweater reappears every winter. And why not? The beautiful colors and designs are created to frame the face and make a statement regardless of how you style one.
Just in case you REALLY want to know the background of the fair isle sweater, here is what Wikipedia has to say:
The Fair Isle Sweater Outfit

It’s pretty hard to choose just one of these sweaters as there are so many to choose from. The version I’m styling today has colors that I navigate toward: mustard yellow and gray. What shades are you drawn to?

This sweater is just one of many available at Talbots. There is no wool in the fabric, which is a must for me. I know that a traditional or typical fair isle sweater is definitely made of wool!

The Outfit Pieces
I paired the sweater with some old gray skinny jeans by Halogen. It would also look fab with your favorite jeans! Check out these gorgeous gray skinny jeans from Spanx! I’ve got my eye on them to replace/refresh the pair in these photos!

As today’s trip required walking around the gardens, comfortable shoes were required. These suede booties, by Vionic, have become my go-to shoes. I styled them with rust in the post, Fall Ready in A Colorblock Cardigan Sweater Outfit. The lower stacked heel is perfect for walking and the footbed is padded for comfort. I walked all day in these booties with no trouble. They also come in black and nude.

For a bit of contrast, a cognac leather jacket complimented the colors in the sweater and tied it into the shade of my booties. Mine is several seasons old and continues to be a favorite. Check out a similar cognac leather jacket here.
The Photo Shoot Locale
The photos for this outfit were taken at Roger’s Gardens, a high-end nursery located in Corona Del Mar, California. It’s about a half-hour from our home and we make the trip several times a year. It’s a great place to get ideas for your patio or potted plants, and they have a gift shop, too. Naturally, they decorate for the Christmas holiday and that’s always fun to check out.

While visiting the gardens, it’s a must to have lunch or dinner at the Farmhouse Restaurant located on the grounds. As the name implies, the food is locally sourced, with seasonal farm-to-fork cuisine. Needless to say, it’s worth a visit.

Have you picked up a Fair Isle sweater yet? Or do you already have one or two in your closet? It’s an easy sweater to style with jeans, slacks, and even a skirt for work or a casual event. Choose one in the colors that most complement your complexion!
