Dreaming of a warm, tropical vacation? Me, too! Notice I added the “warm” to tropical. While it may seem redundant, I am SO ready for some truly warm weather and a tropical destination would definitely fit the bill!! Our weather has been cool and breezy and certainly not great beach weather!! I know I shouldn’t dare to whine as so many of my friends in other parts of the country are still having random snowstorms! Really?! Crazy weather everywhere. In any case, I asked my stylist from Stitch Fix to send me a fix with a tropical outfit theme, and boy, did she deliver! So I am sharing with you so we ALL can imagine ourselves in a warm, sunny clime! Ready? Here we go…
Oh, and one last thing: I tried to find shots around my backyard that would mimic this vacation we are all dreaming about. So you will notice the palm trees, the birds of paradise, and the blue water. Just imagine that you are there! I will, too.
Tropical Outfit #One
For the first outfit, I am styling some super cute shorts by Lilly Pulitzer. We all love her bright and fun pieces, right? Not only is the blue pattern gorgeous, but the rickrack detail really sets them apart. Ready for shopping and sightseeing in a little town in Hawaii? Oh, yeah, these are perfect! Or maybe just for shopping around YOUR town.
Do you like the really high platforms that are trending right now? If you are like me, you had a pair back in the 70’s, right? Lol! Mine was purple suede. Can you imagine? They were actually quite cute. But today, I really don’t like the look or the comfort of some of the super high versions, especially in espadrilles. I found these at the Gap, and they are reasonably high while still being comfortable, and at a reasonable price.
Check out the palm trees–I was just hoping I wouldn’t fall into the pool! Haha! What do you think of this cobalt off-shoulder top? While I love the color and style, I can’t decide if it’s too much fabric for me and just makes me look top-heavy! It is a very cute top, however.

My beautiful pearl necklace was designed and assembled by my very talented BFF Katie. It is a piece I will treasure. You know how certain things remind you of times or places or people in your life? This will do that for me every time I wear it. I’ll bet you have jewelry that does the same for you.
Don’t you just love these shorts? In the next section, you will see another way to style them.
Tropical Outfit #Two
For a more casual look, this tropical outfit includes the same shorts with an eyelet halter top (similar version here). This is the kind of top you can wear anywhere on any warm day. The white eyelet fabric gives it a soft feel and a feminine look.
These adorable emerald green slides were part of the tropical outfit fix. Slides in a beautiful rich suede like this are the perfect shoe when you want to add a pop of color but maintain a casual vibe.
A halter top is a great choice for warm weather. You can see how the back would keep you cool while still showing off your tan. (Oops, I will have to work on that!!)
The high low detail updates the halter style and keeps it current. It also gives you some length in the back if you like that feature!
Continuing with this tropical outfit theme, check out the dressier look next.
Tropical Outfit #Three
For this look, imagine yourself heading to dinner at a hotel along the beach. Or even in the hotel! Or souvenir shopping, or whatever. This dress is absolutely beautiful as well as pricey, as it is a designer brand. It is made of quality fabric in a frond pattern, fully lined, and has a statement zipper up the back. If this doesn’t put you in a relaxed mood, I don’t know what will! Haha!
Since I love yellow with green (well, honestly, with almost everything!), I added some cute yellow flower earrings and two bracelets with yellow and green stones.
Do the birds (of paradise) help put you in relax mode? I hope so! Once again, I styled this dress with the emerald slides and they give the dress a totally casual look. Of course, this type of dress could also be dressed up and be very elegant for a more formal occasion, like a wedding. Sheath dresses are a must-have in your wardrobe for that very reason!
The circular woven bag you’ve seen in many of my posts (like here and here) is a perfect bag for a tropical outfit like this and gives any outfit a summery look and feel.
After seeing all of these tropical looks, can you feel the vibe? If you can’t take that dream vacation you can channel it at home by choosing colorful, tropical fabrics and accessories. Experiment and have fun with your “wardrobe” vacation!
Friends you meet along the way: Meet Pauline
The very best part of this blogging journey is the many people you “meet.” I have heard from people from all over the globe as well as my friends near and far. One very special lady is Pauline, who lives in the UK. She commented on my St. Patrick’s Day post and we have been corresponding since then. I told her to just go to Target for lots of inexpensive decorating ideas. She mentioned that she lives in the UK and didn’t think there was a Target nearby! Shame on me!!
She was attending a St. Paddy’s Day event at her church and sent me a picture of her and the ladies in the choir all dressed in green. She also shared her adorable look with me.
Don’t you just love her cute tunic? And the tiara is priceless. So is she.
Thanks for joining me today. Happy Hump Day!

Darlene, I love the vacation you just took me on! Your shots are all perfect for these fun, beautiful, tropical outfits. I bought those wedge espadrilles from Gap last year and I swear by them. Comfy and affordable. They look great on you. Those shorts are precious. I love LP and I love that circle bag of yours. Great post, I want one of everything!!!

You look gorgeous, Darlene. I love the print mix – the top paired with the shorts is a stunning combo and the colors are beautiful on you. What fun sandals – always love getting a little boost being a petite lady myself! xx- Shannon || Gamine & Stripes
