Plaid is always popular in the fall. We see plaid tops of all kinds, in knits, flannel, wool and so on. We also see it in skirts, like this tweed pencil skirt. And what to wear with a plaid tweed skirt? How about a chenille sweater?
Thankfully, tweeds and plaids are no longer boring in dark, drab colors. Take this skirt, for example. The plaid has a multitude of bright colors, including reds and burgundies, navy and bright blue, mustard, and just a bit of black and white. It’s not your grandma’s tweed anymore! Read on for all the details.
The Tweed Pencil Skirt and Chenille Sweater Outfit
Yes, once again, this skirt was part of a Trunk Club selection. While it’s a bit of a heavy fabric for our climate, the fabric is soft and the fit is perfect. It’s by Halogen so it is beautifully made and comes in petite and regular sizes.
Chenille is another fall and winter winner. I personally own a couple of comfy, cozy long cardigans and the softness is amazing. The color, named red, is actually a deep cranberry shade. I love the richness of the color!
The sweater is a crop style. Now I’m not often a fan of crop top styles–are you? But being a cropped length enables the skirt to have a long, smooth line and you don’t have to figure out whether to tuck the top in or not. That is an advantage!
You can see the voluminous sleeves–a detail that sets this sweater apart. The sleeves update a basic chenille sweater to make it current. And the higher neck is both flattering and warm.
Finally, the over-the-knee (OTK) booties, once again, are the perfect accompaniment to this outfit. Being high, as in OTK (Ha-ha!), there’s no issue with the midi length skirt bumping against the top of the boots. That can ruin the line of the outfit, and it’s annoying when you walk! Can you relate?
The plum lip
You may have noticed I’ve been into the “red lip” as a finishing touch for many of the outfits that I’ve styled recently. A red lip puts that finishing touch on a classic outfit and I especially like it with a dark or classic styled outfit. Likewise, I like the plum shades as an alternative to a red option when you want a more subtle color. My current favorite plum is called Plum Orchid and it’s a creamy lipstick from Laura Mercier. She makes lovely lipsticks. You can take a look at the many shades available here.
Home and Family
Here I am with my boys. Well, it’s missing my main boy who no longer lives at home. We are fortunate that he still likes to come home to visit and to go to dinner and movies together. We savor every moment as we know once he has a family of his own, time will be even more precious.
Our Schnauzer mix, Sergeant has been with one full year this month! He is a great dog and beloved part of our family. And my little old man, Scooter, is 15 and going strong. Don’t you love his grey eyebrows? Haha! He is having an issue with his ACL and we are looking into braces. Can you imagine? They make leg braces for dogs! How great is that? I’ll keep you posted on that one…
Thanks for sharing your time with me today. It is my honor and my privilege that you took time out of your day to spend a little time talking fashion and life.
Beautiful outfit. I love all the tweeds and plaids too this season and that color is great on you.
Hi Julie,
Thanks very much! Nothing like a little color to kick things up a notch, right?
Happy Halloween!
