As we begin to emerge from our homes, it’s nice to wear something a little more special than we’ve been wearing. Something like a simple dress in a striking color, like this mixed media dress.
If you’re like me, your “look” has been shorts and tees, or sweatshirts and jeans. Comfy athleisure has been the biggest fashion trend this spring. Like any trend, that’s been a fun one as there as lots of cute athleisure pieces. But a pretty dress always works to make one feel a notch above normal.
To illustrate, I’m showing it two ways. You can see how just changing up the accessories makes a difference. Nothing surprising there, right? And in both ways, the dress remains the focal point, as intended.
The Mixed Media Dress
One of the best things about this dress is the color. It’s called “Azure Shade” which describes it perfectly. It mimics beautifully the Mediterannean or the Caribbean Sea colors as well as the good old Pacific out my window! So it’s a dress you can wear even now as we all dream of the sea!! And that long-awaited vacation.
What the heck is a mixed media dress, you ask? It is a bit of an odd title, but it does describe the variety of textures in the dress. The top is a subtle stretch knit fabric, while the skirt is made of a shinier silk-like texture. As we all know, a mix of textures adds to the interest of any outfit.
The waist has a band that sits a bit low with a tie for the waist. Some reviewers thought the waist fit oddly, but as I have a bit longer torso, it works for me.
A simple round neck, sleeveless dress is one of my favorites–and it has pockets along the side seams. Gotta love that, right?! The final selling point? It’s machine washable.
Basic Black Accessories
I know some ladies think that black is only for fall and winter, but black sandals look great year-round. The same goes for the crossbody bag. Just choose a bag with a woven texture to add that natural element that looks so good in the summer months.
I added a chunky gold bracelet and dangly earrings for a touch of elegance.
Just by adding a black blazer or cardigan and heels, you can wear this dress on into the fall for work or evening wear.
For a light summer look, accessories in various shades of white worked well. You’ve seen these crochet wedge sandals before and I love them with so many summer outfits! Once again, off-white rattan earrings add to the natural look.
How adorable is this imitation pearl bag? It’s very inexpensive but I can see it with lots of outfits both casual and elegant.
An older necklace and bracelet set of white seed pearls added a fun casual element as well.
For a cool evening, a white wrap (maybe with pearls sewn in!) or a cropped cardigan would look adorable.
If you’re looking for a dress that’s both simple and elegant, one you can wear now and later, take a look at this cute mixed media dress. The price is right and the look is classic.
