Olive is a classic fall color and one of my favorites. It’s such a subtle earthy color that can almost serve as a neutral which makes it look good with so many colors. Today I’m styling it two ways in a plaid tunic outfit.
A tunic-style top is such a good choice when you’re looking for easy style. You can wear them over your pants or tucked in and they look great both ways. Styled in plaid, a tunic is a perfect top for fall.
The Plaid Tunic Outfit Two Ways
The first outfit here makes a super cute transitional outfit. You know those warm Indian Summer days that still feel like summer? A pair of shorts in a fall color makes the outfit transition from summer to fall. Since they are in olive green, you can style them with almost any plaid or floral top as well as solids in burgundy, red, pink, navy, black, tan, yellow–even your favorite animal print! The fabric is lightweight and flowy so you can dress them up or down. They also come in white.
The plaid tunic outfit features the same top in both looks. It’s not your traditional plaid shirt as it’s more of a peasant style plaid tunic. I’m sharing some similar styles here:
The first top, in reddish-orange, is the same top in a different color so the fit is the same.
You can absolutely wear shorts in the fall. While I’m styling them with chunky heeled sandals, you could add fall booties over tights or sneakers for a warm fall day.
For the second outfit, the top is worn as a true tunic over olive-green jeans for a monochromatic or matchy-matchy look. A tunic top also works with your favorite jeans, belted or unbelted.
The olive ankle pants are by one of my favorite brands: Wit & Wisdom. These are high-waisted ankle pants with just the right amount of stretch and their Ab-solution technology to slim the waistline. In addition to the olive, they come in six other beautiful colors, in both petite and regular sizes.
It isn’t easy to find shoes in olive, or any green for that matter. I picked these up last fall after seeing them styled by another blogger. (That’s one of the perks of blogging, seeing new styles from fellow bloggers!) The added bonus is that they are comfortable, which is a goal of the Walking Cradles Company. They make stylish shoes that actually feel good. Can’t beat that, right? The stacked heels and adjustable fit make these so easy to wear. And they provide the finishing touch to this monochromatic plaid tunic outfit. They are still available in limited quantities.
There are lots of adorable olive-green bags this season! I especially like this two-layer satchel bag from Target. It comes in several colors. This hobo handbag with fringe is most like my little olive bag from last season, shown here, though it is larger. Both come in other colors as well.
The earrings are from Kendra Scott. While her pieces are just a bit on the pricey side, they are well-made and super stylish The silver filigree earrings are favorites. I also have these filigree earrings in goldtone.
Have you styled shorts in the fall? It’s an easy look to put together by taking a plaid tunic top and adding it to your favorite shorts. Of course, that same plaid tunic will look great with many pants already in your closet, including your favorite jeans!
