Did I mention this is skirt week? Well, today I am styling yet another fabulous skirt: the pleated sweater skirt. And this skirt is a perfect addition to your fall and winter wardrobe.
What do you think of pleated skirts? I am seeing more and more of them in stores, on Pinterest, and on Instagram and they are really having a moment this fall. Especially in the midi length which is what makes them so versatile. A midi length allows you to wear almost any style shoe in your wardrobe, including heels, booties, boots, sneakers and even sandals.
Being on the short-legged side, I never feel too comfortable wearing a longer skirt with sneakers. It just makes me look short and stumpy. Though I do like sneakers with an above-the-knee length as in this post. But if you are taller or have nice long legs, you might want to try a pleated skirt with sneakers. It’s a very cool look. And while this pleated sweater skirt looks amazing dressed up with heels, it can still look fantastic with cool white sneakers.
So, here are two outfit ideas for styling a pleated sweater skirt.
Pleated Sweater Skirt Outfit #1
The pleated sweater skirt is a great find. The sweater material is lightweight but substantial enough to hold the pleats. And it has a bit of sassy style with the button-up side in the front–a detail that keeps it from being too conservative and frumpy!
For this outfit, I styled the skirt with a classic feminine blouse. I like the contrast between the silky top and the medium weight sweater material in the skirt. This is one of those blouses I’ve had for some time and continue to find ways to wear. So, the “cost-per-wear ratio” is low, meaning I have definitely gotten my money’s worth out of this top! I found a lovely poet sleeve top you could substitute–see it here–on sale!
I am looking for any opportunity to style these booties! You may remember them from an earlier post–you can see it here. These booties are NOT something I would have picked up in the shoe department to try on, but when they came in my Trunk Club trunk, I fell in love with them!
The floral embroidery over the black fishnet makes them so fun! And the low kitten heel is just my style. I know I talk about comfort a lot, but really, if you are like me, you can’t stand to wear something that doesn’t feel good. To me, comfort and style go together. If I am comfortable in my clothes, I’m comfortable in my skin. The bootie comes in several gorgeous colors!
Pleated Sweater Skirt Outfit #2
For this outfit, I added a different take on the leopard print top–also in my Trunk Club selection. This blouse has a bit more color in the print with a touch of red-orange and it really makes the pattern pop! The chiffon material has a nice flow and the ruffles in the back add interest.
I’m not too sure about the bit of openness in the back, but the ruffles tended to cover my natural colored bra. Overall a cute idea, but probably not a keeper for me.
These over-the-knee boots are from last year and I still love them! They are made of a nice micro suede fabric that stretches just a bit. You can still pick up a pair here, and you can see a very cute flat version by Sole Society here.
The beauty of OTK boots is that they are perfect to tuck under a longer skirt. Sometimes when you wear boots with a midi skirt, the top of the boots catch on the hem of the skirt. Has that ever happened to you? But with OTK boots, you have a nice smooth line.
If you are looking for a beautiful pleated sweater skirt that will take you through the fall and the winter, be sure to take a look at this one. It’s a quality skirt that is flattering on almost anyone and will get lots of wear in the cooler months ahead.
