In my recent post, Tips for How to Wear a Jumpsuit, I shared two jumpsuits that were a bit on the dressier side. But jumpsuits aren’t just for formal occasions. This year, the fashion scene is showing a lot of casual-style jumpsuits, especially the utility jumpsuit versions. So, of course, I had to try them out and share them with you!
So, just what is utility fashion? Net-A-Porter, an online fashion concern out of the UK, describes it like this:
Utility dressing is a perennial favorite: easy to wear, almost universally flattering and cool without looking like you gave it too much thought. This season’s updates come courtesy of strong collars, oversized boiler suits with liberal pockets, tailored pants (new Korean brand Low Classic has some of the best) and practical takes on the classic trench by the likes of Joseph, Proenza Schouler and Tibi.
Having tried a few utility pieces myself, I can attest to the easy-to-wear aspect of this style. I first styled a utility jacket in the post, Mix Classic and Trendy in a Maxi Skirt Outfit. It’s a fun way to add a little edginess to an existing look. In the posts Style a Casual Olive Utility Skirt, and Olive utility Vest and Striped Top, I added a few other pieces of this style to my wardrobe. These pieces are versatile enough to add to lots of outfits to create new looks.
My newest foray into this is the utility jumpsuit. Check it out and let me know what you think!
How to Wear A Utility Jumpsuit For Casual Style
The Lavender Jumpsuit
I first saw Shauna of Chic Over 50 styling this adorable lavender jumpsuit. Shauna has great style and is petite, so I love to see what she is wearing! It looked so cute on her and when I found out it was from Target, I thought why not? So I ordered it in two sizes as I was unsure of the fit. Take it from me, or your own experience, there is nothing worse than a too-tight jumpsuit!! Lol!
The fun thing about this utility jumpsuit is the color. The soft feminine color softens the masculine lines, creating a more girly look. The basic shape is easy to style for a casual weekend look with sneakers or sandals or with heels for date night.
The flap pockets, collared neckline, and button-down closer are signature details in a utility piece. The elasticized cuffs at the hem add a fun element to the jumpsuit.
I styled it with white kitten-heel booties for a breezy weekend look. White sneakers would look super cute, too! Or sandals on a warmer spring day.
The Gray Utility Jumpsuit
For contrast, I styled this cute utility jumpsuit in basic gray. Gray is a color I have really come to love, especially in this medium shade.
This version is called a “boilersuit.” I guess that’s because it was worn for easy utility by workmen in the boiler room?! Your guess is as good as mine! In any case, this jumpsuit is cotton with a hint of spandex. The front full-length zipper is a nice touch, as is the self-belt.
To give this basic piece a little style, I wore it with my leather toeless booties, but it would look equally stylish with sneakers or sandals.
This suit has a more tailored look than the first one. It also comes in pink and cream. At under $40, you can’t help but give this look a try!
Nothing beats a jumpsuit for that put-it-on-and-go ease. And for casual style, you can’t beat a utility jumpsuit. If you haven’t yet tried one, give it a go! Tell me what you think–would you wear a a utility jumpsuit for casual style?
I like the cut of these jumpsuits. They are more fitted and and so flattering on you! Thanks for linking up with the Style Six!
xo,
Kellyann
Thanks, Kellyann. Yes, being on the shorter side, jumpsuits that are more fitted work better for me. But I still love those wide-leg versions!
Happy Thursday,

I’m in love with the lavender jump suit! Beautiful color, one of my favourites. I’m seeing more jumpsuits styled in a casual way and I like it. Thanks for sharing at #WowOnWednesday!
Thanks, Gail. That’s the one I finally settled on, too. Except for that “bathroom thing’ jumpsuits are so fun to wear!

Darlene, I love that you were inspired by Shauna’s look in the lavender jumpsuit. I just read her post. How beautiful it was. And I love how you are totally rocking these utility jumpsuits. You look amazing in both colors. I still haven’t figured out how to pull off this look myself, but I sure do enjoy admiring it on you! Fabulous!

I’m often inspired by all of the great bloggers out there–like you! I try to click and buy when I see it on other bloggers, so they can earn those few pennies from their affiliate links. After all, they were my inspiration! Thanks, Shelbee.

wow, both of these jumpsuits look so wonderful on you! I love both colors. I have 2 jumpsuits in my closet, both are dressier, and I dont ususally look for them as I am long/tall and I think of the wedgie factor! I do like the utility style and would be tempted for an olive one. I love how the look changes with just shoes, the white boots look darling with it!
thanks for linking!

Thanks for the sweet comments, Jess! You would look great in a utility jumpsuit, but I do get the wedgie consideration! Lol! I don’t think Target even has tall, do they? But Express does and they have some cute ones, too. Shoes do totally change the look, don’t they? Have a great weekend.

Now you convinced me to buy a new jumpsuit! I love the lilac one!
You would look amazing in one of these jumpsuits, my friend! Go for it! Thanks for weighing in, Nancy.
