Happy St. Patrick’s Day! It’s that time of year for the wearing o’ the green! Today I’m sharing some ideas for green-themed outfits in honor of this special day. Although this year’s celebration will likely be toned down, you still don’t want to get pinched, right?!
Where the heck does the pinching legend come from, you ask? According to folklore, you get pinched on St. Patrick’s day for not wearing green because green makes you invisible to leprechauns, and leprechauns like to pinch people. Well, that makes perfect sense, right?
What is St. Patrick’s Day? I wrote a lengthy explanation on the history in a 2018 post, titled Styling for St. Patrick’s Day. Basically, Saint Patrick’s Day (or St. Paddy’s Day) is the feast day of Saint Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland, and a day of celebration for Irish people.
And, hey, why not? We all love green, albeit in different shades and hues. Green in a springy color has long been my absolute favorite color. When anyone asks, what’s your favorite color? I always say green.
I also have some Irish in my background. My grandma, from England originally, had a grandpa who lived on a riverboat in Ireland. Rumor has it, his last name was O’Hara.
So, yes, I can say I come by a celebrant of this day honestly! Lol!
How I Style The Wearing o’ The Green Outfits
Sometime last fall, I noticed a shortage of green items in my closet. Oh, my, right? Lol! So I added a few things as I found cute things online.
Wearing o’ the Green Tops
The first top I’m styling is this pretty green blouse that came in a Stitch Fix box a few years ago. It’s a really nice blouse with laser cuts on the sleeves and looks great on its own or under a blazer.
Bright green looks great with black or white, but I’m wearing white jeans in honor of Spring. Since it’s officially the first day of spring on March 21s, white jeans are de rigueur! Yay!
In case you’re in the market for an emerald green blouse, this option is super cute with a ruffled V-neck and sleeves. I love this inexpensive leopard print belt!
The second top is this super cute gingham sweatshirt. I bought it in the fall during those crazy sales and it’s part of a co-ord set, with a cute pencil skirt. (It sold out too quickly to even share it with all of you!) If you have a sweatshirt with green in it, wear it with your white jeans and some cute accessories!

I love tan flats with almost anything and picked these up on sale at Talbots. Here is a link to some cute and trendy platform loafers in tan and the crossbody camera bag to match.
A Green Blazer
I have a funny story to tell about this blazer. In my professional life, I often wore colorful blazers even though most ladies wore darker suits and jackets. I liked to be a little different with my outfits and liked to stand out in a crowd of black!
Anyway, I was driving a colleague and me to meet with an attorney for lunch to discuss an issue we were having. As I stopped at a stop sign on a declining hill, we were struck forcefully from behind. I can only remember a really loud noise and then super quiet as my car rolled across the intersection and a wheel rolled by.

Slingback Kitten Heels
After what seemed like a LONG time, the paramedics were able to bend the doors back to get us out of the car and put us in an ambulance. Our injuries were mostly head and neck so things were kind of vague. The medic in the ambulance was trying to take our vitals and was having trouble getting my blood pressure as I was wearing this jacket. She was getting frustrated and asked me if she could just cut off my blazer sleeve. I don’t remember much else, but I do recall telling her no way was she going to cut my new jacket! Lol! My colleague and I were able to laugh about it later. Hey, anything for fashion, right? Lol!
In any case, this green blazer is a keeper.
The Green Pants for St. Paddy’s Day
Green pants are a cute addition for spring, and perfect for St. Patrick’s Day. I kept the look simple with a simple white blouse. Cognac flats and a crossbody bag complete this basic yet colorful outfit.
Just in case you, too, like bright emerald green pants, here is a similar pair. The boyfriend shirt is super affordable and fits nicely with raglan sleeves. Here it’s tucked but can be worn out for a very casual look.
Wearing o’ the Green Trench Coat
Last but not least, is my green trench coat. I picked this up four years ago (WHAT?), in the year that Pantone selected “greenery” as the color of the year. As this shade of green is my go-to in the spring, I grabbed it. Every spring I pull it out and wear it with jeans, sweats, dresses–almost everything. It adds that happy pop of color to whatever I’m wearing that day. (Sorry, it’s not a “popular” coat this year and I could only find one or two pre-loved on Etsy.)
I love to wear this shade of green with bright yellows and blues, like these adorable yellow slingback pumps.
What is your green outfit for St. Paddy’s Day? Does your closet need a little wearing o’ the green? This emerald green shade is pretty for this holiday as well as the many spring days coming up.
Fabulous green outfits! I love emerald green. The car accident sounds really scary, thanks goodness you were ok…and that your jacket survived unscathed too! Thanks for linking up!

That darn animal print just seems to look good with everything, doesn’t it? Lol! Yes, I am glad I was able to save the blazer! Thanks, Jess.

Darlene, I am in a downright swoon over all of your gorgeous green outfits! Green has always been my favorite color as well even though I am not one single bit Irish! Being the only green eyed person in my entire blue eyed family, my mother always dressed me in green and it has just stuck! What a crazy story about your green blazer, too! I am glad that you were okay and that your blazer was saved from destruction! Thanks for sharing and linking with me, my friend.

Thanks so much, sweet Shelbee! I love green, too. I wonder where your green eyes come from? Some ancestor down the line. I am the only one in my family with green eyes, too. My mom had dark brown but my dad’s were hazel, so I and my four brothers all have variations of that from hazel to blue to green. And yes, saved from destruction indeed! Lol! Have a great week.

I didn’t know about the pinching! That’s a funny story. Green is after black my favorite color. Love your looks especially the gingham!
Haha! I thought so, too! I never knew why through all these years! I’m loving green pieces this spring. Thanks, Nancy, and enjoy the rest of the weekend!

Such lovely outfits and you look great in all of them! I love the pop of leopard in your shoes in the first outfit!
Life is a Shoe
It’s amazing how drawn we all are to leopard! Lots of ladies have commented on that combo, but really, what doesn’t work with leopard? Lol! Thanks, Celyn.

So many cute green outfits! I really love that first outfit and how you did the half tuck and it shows that beautiful leopard print belt! I would love a green jacket, what a great time of the year to get it out!

I love green with leopard. These outfits are amazing. I need that blazer too. No way I would let someone cut my blazer either.
Haha! I’m glad you agree with me on the blazer cutting!! Thanks, Fonda. Have a nice day!

I adore all these outfits, especially the blouse with laser cut sleeves! Perfect for St. Patrick’s Day!
