I know what you’re thinking; who’s going to a fall wedding this year? Unfortunately, not me. But when Ada, from Elegance and Mommyhood, asked me to join her fall wedding outfit inspiration collaboration, it created a great excuse to style it up, just for fun!
Actually, I did have a fall wedding invitation. My adorable great-niece arranged a BIG wedding earlier this spring. Needless to say, she had to postpone it and chose a date this month. But air travel out of state, a large group of new folks, and the current situation just made it impossible. I’m so sad to miss it and so look forward to her pictures. I know they will be gorgeous because she is a knockout!
My Fall Wedding Outfit
The prospect of picking out a new dress or look for a wedding is usually so much fun, right? However, I didn’t want to buy a new dress in the hopes of wearing it sometime soon. (While I admit that I have picked up some things despite being unable to wear them anywhere for now!
Instead, I went to my closet and chose something to style in a new way. The leopard slip dress has appeared in other posts, as in here and here, so the cost-per-wear has made it a great buy.

Boyfriend blazers are trending once again, and are always a staple to have in your closet. I picked up this satin one in bronze from Express (I am loving their pieces lately!), thinking ahead to holiday styling. Styling a blazer over a fitted dress, like this slip dress, really changes up the look and adds just the right degree of warmth for a fall event when the temps turn chilly.

While this is one take on the theme of fall wedding attire, check out these stylish ladies and their interpretation on the theme! Can you say inspiration?!
The Fall Wedding Collaboration
There is a style that fits everyone here, isn’t there? And a couple of looks I’d like to try myself! Even if they aren’t all “my style,” I so admire the creativity of these amazing ladies. And who knows, I might need to step outside the box and try a new look, too!
EMMA (Style Splash): “I’ve had this dress for years and never had the occasion to wear it. The fabric is light but the style provides plenty of coverage, making it ideal for fall. I’ve picked out the mustard in the snake print pattern with my shoes and bag, and highlighted the purple with my jewelry.”

ADA (Elegance and Mommyhood): “This beautiful silk jacquard black+silver rose dress with the bold ruffled hemline is perfect for a Fall Wedding – if I were to attend one. The herringbone black tights bring texture, interest, and warmth to this look. And that fabulous fuzzy grey clutch with all the fraying and tassels brings more depth. With the right makeup and of course some heels in addition to fun statement earrings and some sparkly bracelets, this look would definitely be an elegant option to attend a wedding this time of year. Moto jacket is optional!”

AMBER (Avec Amber): “2020 has certainly thrown us all a number of curveballs, with many celebrations including weddings or wedding receptions being postponed until we can safely celebrate again. This jumpsuit is a piece that I purchased last year for a girls’ trip to Napa, one that I planned to wear to one of this year’s wedding celebrations. Rest assured I will be saving it for one of those rescheduled weddings next year, and I hope that everyone stays healthy and safe during this time!”

DARLENE (Aquamarina Style): “Take that basic slip dress you wore in the summer up a notch for a fall wedding or any dressy event. Adding a satin boyfriend blazer gives the dress a whole new look! Just add neutral pumps and some bling and you are ready to party!”

JULIE (Fashion Trends and Friends): “I love attending weddings and planning what I’ll wear for the event! This fall we were supposed to have two weddings to attend, which I was really looking forward to as well as some long weekend getaways. One in September (my niece) in Oklahoma and one in October (our friend’s daughter) in Wisconsin. Sadly, both had to cancel their plans and simplify their attendance list. I believe the type of wedding and the venue dictate what is appropriate to be worn. I tend to be overly fancy; and for me, a wedding is a perfect opportunity to pull out all of my sequins and rhinestones. This is the look I would have worn to the wedding in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.”

BOJANA (Bo’s Bodacious Blog): “This little, moody floral dress is the perfect addition to your fall closet. You can take it from work to a dinner date, to a fall wedding without missing a beat. The dress has it all, flouncy sleeves, ruffled skirt, a tie belt to define your waist and shape, as well as a deep v neckline for a little hint of sexy. Pair it up with heels, a little sparkle, and a trusted clutch and you are wedding-ready without breaking the bank. Hop on over to the blog to see full details on how to style this dress for a night of dancing and celebrating. “

SHELBEE (Shelbee on the Edge): “I haven’t worn my favorite green kimono in a few years and have been wanting to style it as a dress. So I layered a black lace-trimmed slip dress over some lacy stockings and sassy high heels and added my green kimono with a leather obi belt. Then I ditched the belt and showed off the slip dress. I chose my furry yellow bag because I love the way it played with the bright colors in the kimono. Of course, my “Love” choker is a must for any wedding outfit!”

LAURA (I Do deClaire): “Although most weddings are put on hold right now (thanks a lot ‘rona), this collaboration was a fun reason to dress up for a short time anyway! I’ve long said that skirts can be dressy enough for weddings and by pairing this dark floral maxi with a lace top and belting it- it almost passes for a dress! “

While it’s unlikely that any of these fashionistas are headed to a fall wedding, we know that when they do, each of them will be the most stylish lady there!
You look fab in this dress! I do love leopard print Hun. Thank you for joining me on #Chicandstylish Jacqui x
If only I was actually going to a wedding like you are, Jacqui!! It’s crazy how much we all love leopard print, isn’t it? I think we’ll see it for a long time to come.

Hi Darlene
I do feel bad for those people that planned weddings in early Spring that had to reschedule.
Love that sexy leopard dress! I have a different version you see on the blog. Love the slit and longer style. Love it with the blazer, I like to experiment with sweaters or blazers over dresses too. You look fab!
thanks for linking!

I love your dress Darlene! It looks so chic with the satin blazer. Sorry to hear you’re having to miss your great-niece’s wedding, I hope you can all get together at a later date.

Thanks, Emma. I do, too. That’s the worst thing about this virus–missing the things we do to celebrate one another. Not to mention the folks who have lost loved ones, especially. I’m looking forward to styling this blazer in lots of ways in the meantime.
xx Darlene
You look gorgeous, Darlene! I’m sorry you have to miss your niece’s wedding, but given the Covid situation, you made the right choice.

Thanks so much, Michelle. I just hate all the things we’re missing due to this pandemic. It’s so sad. But it does make us appreciate those things we took for granted, doesn’t it? Thanks for the feature on your post–much appreciated!

Who is a knockout?!? YOU! Seriously Darlene, you look FANTASTIC. This dress just fits you like a glove and the blazer is such a nice and defining addition. Love this look and would love to have a slip type dress fit me like this. I am sorry that you are missing that wedding. I really feel for all the families and couples that have been trying to reschedule without actually knowing when in the future things will change for us. Take care and have a great week.

Thanks so much, Bo. I think your choice was the smart one–a lovely dress that you can wear for lots of occasions! It is such a bummer to miss her special day, and I mostly feel bad for her. You’re right that the future is such an unknown for all of us. Have a wonderful weekend.

Darlene, this is an amazing outfit! You are stunning, my friend. The leopard slip dress is so gorgeous and I am absolutely swooning over your satin blazer! I don’t think I can wear that bronze color but a satin blazer I would love to have! How fun. Fabulous look! And I am so sorry that you have to miss your great-niece’s wedding. That is a bummer. Boo on covid.

What a beautiful dress, it looks very good on you. Now we need some parties to go to hey. Won’t happen here! We’ll, it’s nice enough to dress up for ourselves isn’t it!
Haha! Yes, it was totally a dress-up event–with nowhere to go!! I can’t wait for some kind of normalcy to actually wear some of these things! Ugh. Thanks, Nancy. Have a nice weekend.

Have a wonderful weekend. It was fun collaborating with this group!

DARLENE, I always love your style. It is polished, chic, inspirational, modern, stylish, feminine and classic, exactly like this play-pretend Fall Wedding Look! I know how much you love neutrals, gold, blush pink and leopard so I am true you stayed true to your style and what you love! I also love that you put your hair up. This gives me inspiration to dress up – to a fancy event or special date night – one of my slip dresses, with a blazer! You look fantastic!
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR BEING A PART OF THIS COLLABORATION. I hope you can join me again in December for Holiday Weddings – I am actually invited to one, then!
Thanks to you, Ada, for including me in the fun challenge! Dressing up, even pretend for now! is such a nice diversion from our very casual lifestyles! All the ladies looked amazing, especially you!! Your dress was perfect to dress up for a wedding or more casually! Good move! I had to put my hair up as I was having one of those BAD HAIR days!! Lol! I would love to collaborate with you again, in December or whenever.
Thanks, my friend@!
