Having just returned from a wonderful reunion with my husband’s family and very limited internet access, I am rushing to get this post out. I planned to send some shots of the Fair Play area’s (in Northern California) wine tasting fun, but that will wait for another day. The focus of today’s post, then, is on what to wear with a maxi skirt for summer.
I am staying true to my pledge to pass the month of August on my “shopping diet,” and it is challenging! Especially when I see other bloggers styling super cute new things. And the sales…they are amazing right now! But, gulp, I am going to remain steadfast to my pledge, as I still have some new things to share. Like this gorgeous black maxi dress…
The maxi skirt for summer
This skirt came from another cute shop in Leland, Michigan. (I will share some photos soon.) The shop, Rustic Roots, carries beautifully simple pieces in muted colors. Their prices are on the lower side for the quality of the items they carry. So when I found this smock waist skirt–a style I wanted–at a great price, I snatched it up! But what to wear with a maxi skirt for summer, you ask? Here are some ideas:
- With a simple white tee and sneakers. A look that is cute and casual, and still trending.
- With a sleeveless turtleneck, a long necklace, and wedges. Ah, a bit of boho there!
- A button-front sleeveless blouse and simple sandals. Crisp and casual.
- With a tank, flip-flops, a large hat, and a straw bag. Yes, totally beach ready.
First of all, the maxi skirt. A basic black maxi skirt can be styled so many ways. It maximizes the pieces in your wardrobe because it goes with the pieces you already have. I found a very similar style skirt at JJill and you can check it out here. For an inexpensive maxi skirt on sale (in four colors!), check out this link.
For my part, I am styling it with a sleeveless top in a pale lilac shade from the same shop. I love the simple tank styling and the lilac color. So cute!
Now, you may be wondering about what kind of bra to wear with the cut-in shoulders of this type of top. You could certainly wear a great strapless bra like this one (my favorite!). But you could also wear it with a racerback bra like this one by Spanx. I wear mine quite a bit with halter tops and other cut-in shoulder tops and dresses. It’s super comfortable, which is the deciding factor for me. Same for you, too, I’ll bet.
The maxi skirt for summer: shoes and accessories
The bag is from Stitch Fix and goes with so many items in my wardrobe! The embroidery is the detail that sets this shoulder bag apart. Love that.
Let’s talk about the shoes!! Nothing beats a well-made pair of leather sandals, and these are no exception. This pair is by Franco Sarto, an Italian shoe company, and they are carried by Nordstrom and other high-end stores. However, the price point for these shoes is considerably lower than many other name brands, especially for the quality. The darling young man in the shoe department (there are lots of good-looking kids working in shoes! Lol!) said that they are often overlooked but are actually one of their best brands. I bought two pairs by this shoe-maker last summer and just love them. The leather is soft, so no rubbing or blisters at all. Give them a look next time you are looking for leather sandals.
If I wanted to dress up this basic maxi skirt, I could style it with my beautiful lilac heels from the NSale. I wrote about them in this post. That would probably be enough to make this a dressy enough outfit for dinner or a party. Maybe even a wedding.
Do you already have a maxi skirt in your closet? If so, I hope you can use these ideas for what to wear with a maxi skirt for summer helpful or inspiring. In the fall, I will restyle this skirt for a fall look. I love to maximize my wardrobe by restyling pieces for seasons, events, or just for fun! Thanks for stopping by today.
