There are lots of colors that shout “Spring!” but none has quite the punch as yellow. Whether you’re planning a simple or dressier look for the coming month, this yellow floral top outfit is one you can style now and on through the summer months.
Yellow evokes traditional Easter bunny colors–colored eggs, floral dresses, Peeps marshmallow candy :), that yellow shredded “grass” we line Easter baskets with, and so on.
One of the best things about yellow is that it goes with so many other colors. It looks amazing with grey, green, black, tan, navy–the list goes on. One of my favorite combinations is grey and yellow.
The Yellow Floral Top Outfit
You may remember these grey split hem jeans from a couple of posts last year. They are still one of my favorite pairs of jeans! You can read about them in the post, Sleeveless Yellow Top and Split Hem Jeans Outfit. (You can tell I like yellow with grey!) There are still a few sizes available if you like them.
Have you seen these jeans popping up this spring? Even if you don’t think split hems are for you, you should give them a try–they are surprisingly flattering! You can view some versions here: Medium Blue with front split hem, White Split hem jeans and a pair of split hem jeans by Joe’s at Amazon. They would look great with a cute floral top this spring!
Florals are a classic choice for spring and summer. It’s the best time of year to sport a floral anything and there are lots of cute colors and style to choose from.
This particular top has lots of details that make it stand out, from the puffed sleeves and shirttail hem to the button-back detail.
To keep the look springlike, I opted for suede mules. These are an older pair. The chunky heel gives them just enough height. And the grey suede is a great transition color for spring and summer. Here is a pair of grey mules from Walking Cradles (SO comfy!) and another very similar pair of mules from Target!
The simple white and gold hoops are from J. Crew and will be a great staple for the season. The oval hoop earrings are still available in pink and gold. They are striking enough to wear for some drama yet understated enough to wear with a suit for work.
Scenes from San Clemente
The location for today’s photo shoot is in our coastal town of San Clemente. San Clemente or “The Spanish Village by the Sea,” has a darling downtown area that wends it way down to the pier bowl area. There are lots of shops and restaurants to enjoy.
With the glorious sunny weather (and yes, a bit windy, too!), we decided to take our photos near the San Clemente Library in our downtown area. You can see the bit of Spanish influence in the buildings and the flowers in bloom and the deep green of the grass and the palm trees. Styling this yellow floral top seemed like the perfect look for such a spring day!
The All-Purpose Denim Jacket
How many denim jackets do you have in your closet? If you’re like me, you have more than a few. And why not? These jackets are not only super cute additions to any outfit, but they also provide that bit of warmth needed on a chilly spring day or a cool summer evening.
To make your look more springlike, try one in white or cream. In any color, the denim jacket still maintains that denim-y edge, and the lighter color strikes a warm-weather tone to go with your outfit. Here are some options, at various price points:
The neutral tone of this denim jacket makes a nice addition to the casual yellow outfit styled here. Of course, the yellow crossbody bag adds a fun pop of color, too!
Are you a fan of yellow? If it’s not a good color on you, try a floral print like this one with neutral shades like grey and white so you don’t call attention to the color by your face. You can always add a pop of yellow in your accessories, too!
Until next time…
I love yellow and grey together and it’s a combo that has freshness and impact, as you’ve shown. I love the split hem jeans too. Thanks for joining #WowOnWednesday Darlene!
Thanks, Gail! Clearly, I like it, too, as I’m finding quite a few posts featuring those colors! Lol! Thanks for sponsoring the Link Up.

I am actually wearing a top with yellow in it. It was on my list for this spring and summer because yes it sure feels cheery and sunny.

Well, I guess great minds think alike, right? Haha! I agree–yellow makes me think of sunshine and summer, too. Thanks for the comment, Mireille!
