Woohoo! It’s officially summer! As part of my drive (some may say, push!) to encourage you to wear shorts this summer, I am styling a yellow shorts outfit with a pleat back top. Shorts and a colorful top are all you need to be completely prepared for summer. And you really can dress a shorts outfit up or down, depending on where you are wearing it!
The pleat back top outfit
This particular top came in a Trunk Club selection but is by a popular clothing designer that is not too pricey. I really liked the begonia floral pattern with the mix of pale yellows and pinks. While I styled it here with pale yellow shorts, it would also look pretty with my pink chino shorts, as I styled in this post. It is quite roomy, so you may need to size down. (I think I will return it to do the same.) It comes in several pretty colors.
The pleat back top looks great on almost everyone. With a more fitted front, and flowing back, the pleating in the back allows it to flow over your hips and backside–a big benefit when you don’t really want a lot of attention there! Haha! It’s an easy fit that is so easy to style!
Espadrilles have been around for some time, kind of like this yellow pair! One can’t often find yellow shoes, which is why I hang on to these. I did find a cute flat pair in a nice yellow that you can view here. The pink in the top tends toward a reddish hue, so this red clutch seemed like the perfect bag.
Since I am one of those gals that have to be prepared once the sun goes down and there is a chill in the air, I always take a sweater or jacket. You can see a similar bolero version here. This rose cardigan is very handy for that! I do have a lot of color going on in this outfit, but I like the way they play off one another, with the pleat back top as the center point.
The shorts
I have written about my current favorite shorts, from A New Day at Target, quite a few times. These shorts are my other favorites. They are from Lands End who also makes great cotton shorts. These come in many colors and lengths and have a comfortable fit. This pair is actually a bit too roomy I have discovered! I continue to follow the guidelines from the fat loss program I followed in February. Honestly, ladies, if you want to lose the fat (and the pounds that go with it), this program really works. You can read about it here in my post about the program, or check it out here. The next round starts July 16th. You still have time to feel sleeker for summer! The program starts working very quickly.
Have I convinced any of you no-shorts ladies to don a pair (or several!) of shorts this summer? If so, I would love to hear from you. We are all in this together and I want to celebrate all of us who wear–and flaunt–our own legs!!
Santa Barbara Bound
We are headed to Santa Barbara for a wedding on the beach this weekend. Deciding what to wear is always the most fun–and challenging–part, right? Later next week I will share the highlights along with the outfit I finally chose. Stay tuned!
Those yellow shorts are so perfect, especially with those espadrilles yellow sandals! I am really loving espadrilles shoes this summer. That bright top is so cheery with the yellow!

Yes, I am totally a yellow gal! And I know what you mean about espadrilles–they are so perfect for summer! I’m loving your style, too! Happy weekend!
